I (we) have two of the sweetest boys ever. Matthew has adored his brother since the day Alex was born (and really, he was so thrilled to have a sibling while I was pregnant – there was never really a time that Matthew wasn’t interested.) As Alex has grown, the boys have formed a great relationship. They play together and entertain each other, and it’s so great to see.

That’s right – tomorrow is launch day for Tale of the Gevaudan Beast! I’m definitely excited – I think everyone will really enjoy this prequel. You can read a description of it and see a teaser trailer video here.

Edison has been very busy today making sure everything is ready to go, and I’m sure tomorrow everything will go smoothly!

Two Days Left!

This Saturday – only 2 days away – is the release of Edison’s newest book: Tale of the Gevaudan Beast!

It’s a novella, the prequel to Tale of the Wisconsin Werewolf, so it is a shorter book. But its a great story and a very enjoyable read. Edison is excited to have a horror book out for Halloween – but I look at it more of a sad love story. It definitely has it’s scary parts, and if you spook easily you shouldn’t read it with the lights out at night…but it’s more of a sad love story about a man who would do anything to save his wife…even at the cost of his own soul. Even at the cost of innocent lives. It’s a page turner, that’s for sure. You definitely don’t want to miss this story.

And, because he’s just this awesome, Tale of the Gevaudan Beast will be available free (the ebook version) during select days. Stay tuned to find out more!

Highlights of Our Visit

Well, another visit with Sara has come and gone. We had a great time! She flew in on a Thursday, and after most of the day traveling (in which her cab driver couldn’t find her at about 3 am, and her bus from Chicago to Rockford dropped her off at a different location than I thought – so while the kids and I were waiting at one hotel for the bus, her bus was actually at the bus terminal. Oops.) We were finally reunited and we had a blast. Thursday we pretty much just settled in and relaxed, and we ate some really good chicken and dumplings (crock pot recipe – it was the first time we tried it and it was pretty awesome!) and we all went to bed early.

Friday we ate an early lunch and all headed out to the Pumpkin Patch! I love this time of year, and I love the Pumpkin Patch. Matthew had a great time, and I think Sara enjoyed visiting there for the first time. We got some great pictures (some of which were taken with Sara’s camera and I’m waiting for her to share them.)

Matthew and the baby goats

Last year, Matthew was terrified of the animals. This year, he was very excited to be around them. He really did great, and he surprised both Edison and myself! We were super proud.

Here’s Matthew going down the gigantic slide. He had a blast!

Then that night, Edison (being the awesome cook that he is) made a wonderfully spicy South of the Border Pizza:

Saturday, Sara and I went shopping at her favorite Rockford store: Hobby Lobby. We had a great time, and she got some fun yarn. Then we went to Kohls for some clothes, but didn’t have any luck there. Though she did get a cozy blanket. Sunday we hung around the house and just went out for lunch. We decided to eat at McDonalds, and while we were there, we found a ladies’ wallet in our booth. I turned it in to the employees at the counter, and about halfway through our meal a lady came up to us and asked if we had found her wallet. We told her we turned it in at the counter, and she thanked us and left. I thought she had gotten her wallet and left, but then she came back to our table with 2 bags of chocolate chip cookies and thanked us again. It was really nice!

Sadly, Monday was the day Sara had to go back home. She had another long day of travel, but thankfully without any cab drivers not being able to find her, or us going to different drop off points. She made it safely home, and we are already talking about our next visit together. We might have a Crux family road trip in our future for this coming summer!

Sara’s Coming to Visit!

I’m so excited, in just a few days my best friend, Sara, is coming to visit!

Sara lives in Maine, and this will be her third visit here. She came for our wedding, where she was my Maid of Honor:

And she also came for my baby shower. And now she finally gets to come meet baby Alex! I’m so excited for her to meet him. As much as I wish she could have come when he was brand new, I’m glad she can come now, when we’ve settled in and things are relaxed now (as much as they can be with two kids and a husband to take care of). Alex is getting to a really fun stage, too. He’s awake a lot of the day, he’s learning the joys of playing with toys and interacting with people, and he still snuggles like a newborn. I’m super excited for Sara to meet him, and to get 5 days of Sara time! I know a trip to Hobby Lobby is on the menu…other than that, we don’t have anything planned. We’re pretty laid back. I can’t wait to see her!

Update – What’s new with the Crux family?

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here, but I really do like having these posts to look back on, to remember things that our family has done and enjoyed…so I really do need to keep pushing myself to get into the habit of writing posts often. It was the end of May last time I wrote, and now we are in the very beginning of October. Quite a bit has happened since.

First, our family is doing great. The four of us have adjusted well to life together, and Matthew has taken on his role of big brother wonderfully. He is a great help with Alex, and he loves to spend time with his baby brother. One of his favorite things to do is play on the floor with Alex:

As you can see, Alex has gotten quite big!

(Photo taken July 17, I believe)

The early weeks after Alex’s birth were a little difficult for Matthew, because he didn’t like to hear Alex cry. So we worked with Matthew on that, gave him different options like the freedom to close his bedroom door and have his own space when he needed it, and he wore a pair of headphones that block out sounds (to a certain degree). After a few weeks, the crying didn’t seem to bug him anymore, and now he’ll actually try and calm Alex when he’s crying. It’s very sweet. He’s taken beautifully to being a big brother, and I couldn’t be more proud.

As Alex has gotten older and is doing more, the boys see each other as a source of entertainment. It’s pretty fun to watch, actually. Alex loves to watch Matthew play and do his “skits” – whether it’s playing Diesel 10 or something else, and Matthew loves to watch Alex. I hope they will both stay close as they grow older.

Matthew turned 7!

I cannot believe he’s 7 years old already. He had a great birthday party, complete with Thomas the Train decorations.

Labor Day has already passed, which means another school year is in session! This time, we’re starting the year off homeschooling (instead of leaving public school halfway through the year) – and let me tell you, it’s a lot more difficult to homeschool when you have an infant to take care of too. But we’re getting back into the groove of it, and we have some new materials for this year that I’m really excited about. I’ll write more about those later.

Edison has been hard at work with his newest book, a novella called Tale of the Gevaudan Beast - and it’ll be released on October 26, just a few weeks away! Stay tuned for more news on it, and in the meantime, visit the Enoc Tales website for up to date information!

Edison has also been keeping a personal blog – check it out! He posts about family life, book reviews and recommendations, and other random stuff that’ll definitely entertain you.

I’ve been busy taking care of kids, getting school stuff ready, getting settled in at our new house (did I mention we moved? – Yeah, that was a ton of fun with a 2 month old)…generally just taking care of kids and trying to keep things moving smoothly. A big challenge, one that you seem to constantly work and work and you never seem to see any difference in what you’re doing. But believe me, if you quit doing any of those things that keep everyone happy and things running smoothly, you can definitely tell the difference. So that’s good, right? It’s like standing in a big snowstorm, and you keep getting hit with snow…you continue to shovel your way out, but you work and work and work and you don’t see any progress because it’s still snowing. But if you take a break and don’t shovel for an hour, you’re buried again. So Edison and I have been teaming up trying to figure out how to get unburied, and I think we are making some good strides. As we figure it out, I’ll write about what has and hasn’t helped. Right now, one of the biggest changes we’ve made that’s made the greatest difference, is 3 days a week Edison takes Alex and I get an hour of free time on each of those days. Time I can spend doing whatever I want (usually it’s cleaning, because it’s so much easier to clean without a baby latched onto you).

As Alex grows and can spend more time entertaining himself, I’m sure it’ll get easier. But for now, we are working with what we’ve got. And babies aren’t babies forever, I’m going to enjoy this stage while I can. Even though I’d jump through hoops to get a solid 5 hours of sleep right about now (Alex is not the best sleeper…) I know he won’t be little forever and I’ll miss all the snuggles and unique things that come with having a newborn. Already he’s grown so much. He’s not my squishy little newborn anymore

13 days old

He’s so much bigger, more active, and doing much more. Each stage is great, but I sure do wish it would go by a little slower. He’s growing so fast, and before I know it, he’ll be 7 years old…and Matthew will be 14. Crazy.

Baby Alex arrived on a Monday afternoon, after a relatively quick and easy labor and delivery. He was full term, at 39 weeks 2 days, and I’m proud to say there were absolutely no complications. As soon as he was born, he was placed on my chest, and that’s where he stayed for over an hour. The hospital I delivered at makes a point to delay examining and weighing babies born, that way the first hour or so of life is an easier transition and less stressful for the baby. He was just wiped down a bit, and then he laid on my chest and cuddled with me while I breastfed him. My doctor and nurse took care of me, then everyone left the room to allow Edison and I time with our newborn. It was a wonderful experience.

33 weeks!

I can’t believe I’m 33 weeks pregnant already! It seems like this pregnancy has gone so slowly up until about 25 weeks, but since then it’s really flown by! Only 26 days until he’s full term, and only 47 days until my due date.

So, I thought it would be fun to upload the few belly pictures I’ve taken so far, to see how much I’ve expanded these 8 months…

I’m not sure I can expand much more.

I feel like a whale. My wonderful husband always tells me how beautiful I am, and what a great job I’m doing…I couldn’t ask for a better man. He’s been a huge support to me, and I’d be lost without him. He really has bent over backwards to make sure I’m doing well and I’m happy and well taken care of. He’s such a good husband, and a great daddy to Matthew. It’ll be crazy to soon have two little boys to take care of…crazy, but wonderful. I can’t wait.

Mar 18

I’ve come to the realization that I’m an awful blogger. I know I should write, but getting into the habit of it is very difficult.

Life lately has been pretty good. Matthew is doing wonderful, and he’s getting so excited to meet his little brother. He often says to me “I can’t wait until we have our very own baby!” and he asks if it’s time to go to the baby hospital yet (over and over…) He’s so excited, and it’s great to see. Other than that, Matthew is very excited for warm weather to come (aren’t we all…) and he’s been begging to go to Magic Waters. He keeps telling me how awesome Magic Waters is, and that we should go there. I can’t wait either…right now it’s snowing again, and I’m definitely sick of this cold weather and snow.

Edison is nearly finished with the first draft of his next book (yay!) and it’s set to release sometime around this Halloween. We don’t have an exact release date yet, but it’ll be around Halloween. You guys are going to love this one. Other than that, he just celebrated his birthday and he’s now 23 :) We had a nice family celebration the day before his birthday with my in laws and homemade lasagna (which was really good – my mother in law makes very good lasagna), and on his birthday we had a nice relaxing day at home. I bought him this weird game called Skyrim a month ago (he was thrilled – he had been talking about it for awhile) and for his birthday, I bought him some weird expansion thing he was talking a lot about. He seemed very happy about that. He says the game is great – I’m not a gamer, so I’ll take his word for it.

I’ve been good; I’m 32 weeks pregnant now and getting huge. Definitely waddling around. I see my doctor every week now, just to make sure everything continues to go well. So far I’ve had a wonderful pregnancy. Other than my blood count being low, everything has been perfect. And for that, all I have to do is take an iron supplement. This little boy should be about 4 pounds by now, and he’s definitely running out of room. He gets the hiccups often, and it’s so adorable. 5 more weeks until he’s full term! I’m so excited to meet this little guy :)

Jan 25

(Almost) 25 weeks!

It’s nearly the end of January – can you believe it? I’m also officially more pregnant than I’ve ever been.

I’m 24 weeks 6 days pregnant today, and during my pregnancy with Matthew, he was born at 24 weeks 3 days. Hitting the point of 24 weeks 3 days in this pregnancy was strange, and somewhat difficult for me. I thought about writing a post on it that day, tried to, and discovered I can’t. I’m feeling much better now, and so excited to be this far along. Everything has been going great so far.

I had my normal every-other-week check up yesterday, and everything still looks really good. No sign of any premature labor at all. I think he’s pretty happy and snuggled in there, and doesn’t want to risk coming out when it’s cold. In a couple weeks, I will do the glucose tolerance test, which I’ve never done before…I’ve heard horror stories, and then some women say it’s no big deal. So I don’t really know what to expect…but it’ll be an adventure, I’m sure.

I’m so excited for my baby shower coming up! It’s in mid-February, and my best friend is flying in for it! I’m so excited – she just bought her plane ticket last night and she’ll be staying with us from Friday until Monday. So excited!!

As for the boys in the family – Matthew is doing great, school is going well and he’s having some success with potty training! He’s working hard and I’m so proud of him.

Edison is also doing well, getting all kinds of day to day work done, plus working on his NEW book! He and I have a system down for it, which should (in theory) enable us to get the book finished sooner! It’s looking really good – I think fans will really enjoy it.

Maybe I’ll have Edison take a picture of my belly tomorrow for 25 weeks :)
