2012 in review

It’s crazy to think that tomorrow is the start of a brand new year – it seems like this year has just flown by. I’m so excited for the new year and to see how life unfolds with our soon to be family of four.

January: Edison and I were still newly engaged, and just in the beginning stages of wedding planning. Definitely a fun time. I love weddings…

February: More definite wedding plans were made, and my grandma and I began making some of the decorations ourselves.

March: Edison’s birthday! Edison turned 22 on the 15th. Also, my aunts Jessie and Jenni threw a bridal shower for me at my grandma’s house – that was a lot of fun.

April: Final wedding preparations were made, and on the 22nd I married my best friend. It was the perfect day. Afterwards, we enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon close to home – a gift from my new brother-in-law.

May: I turned 24 on the 30th, and was presented with an awesome new laptop picked out by Edison and Devin (brother-in-law). Also, I switched jobs from being a night shift CNA to being a CSR at a local call center.

June: I was busy learning my new job in June…nothing else too exciting happened that I can remember…

July: Still busy working – Edison was busy putting the finishing touches on his novel and getting everything ready for release day.

August: Matthew’s birthday!! Our little guy turned 6 years old on the 20th. To celebrate, we not only had a birthday party for him, but we also took him to a train museum in Union, IL, to A Day Out with Thomas. He had a blast!

September: We were thrilled to find out that another family member was on the way! On the 2nd, we were thrilled to see 3 very positive pregnancy tests. Trips to my OBGYN began.

October: Hello morning sickness! And crying spells. How has my new husband not divorced me yet?…

November: Final touches were put on the novel, and it was sent off to the printer! A very, very exciting time for us.

December: Release day at last! On the 15th, Tale of the Wisconsin Werewolf went on sale and we had a great release party/signing. Also had an awesome 3D ultrasound in Madison, WI, and found out our new little baby is a boy! And I also left my out of the house job as a CSR and am not working full time from home for Enygma Enterprises (our publishing company).

So, that’s our year in review. Hopefully I didn’t leave anything out… It’s been a great year, and I can’t wait to see how this next year goes! We have a lot up ahead for us – running a business, more books to write, and of course, a new family member will arrive. I can’t wait to see what great things will come in the new year.

Everyone, please have a fun and safe New Years Eve, and a great start to the new year!

Happy Holidays!

(I would say “Merry Christmas” – but I’m just a couple days late on that…sorry)

It’s been a very busy month here! First off, the official launch of Tale of the Wisconsin Werewolf was December 15 – and it was definitely successful!

There’s my awesome husband, before the signing began. I’m so proud of him!

It was a great day, full of meeting new people and sharing the excitement of the book everyone has been waiting months for. It’s especially fun now, nearly two weeks later, to hear the reviews of the book start coming in from people who have finished reading it already. I love hearing what everyone has to say! And don’t forget – if you haven’t purchased a copy yet and would like to, you can do so from here or on Amazon. You won’t be disappointed! As the signing began, I was first to receive a signed copy!

(Also an awesome side view of my 19 week belly)

Since the release, sales are still going strong! I’m so excited to see what the new year brings for us.

Matthew is doing great – although he was pretty sick for a week when he got hit with the flu and an ear infection. A trip to the doctor, a round of antibiotics, lots of naps and cuddling, and he’s good as new. He was able to celebrate Christmas feeling great:

(We would’ve used this picture for Christmas cards…but I totally didn’t get around to doing cards this year. Oops.)

And for baby news… I’m now (nearly) 21 weeks pregnant, and we had a 3D ultrasound done at Stork Vision - which was completely awesome. We saw our little baby all curled up and got some really nice photos and a dvd of the entire session. We also found out we are having a BOY! Another little boy, and we couldn’t be happier. Matthew is thrilled – he’s been asking for a baby brother nearly every day. Here’s one of my favorite pictures of him:

All cuddled up – he looks pretty comfortable in there

And a picture of the 20 week belly:

And that’s our family update for now!

16 Weeks!

I’m back! Things here have been really busy, this blog has taken a back seat. But I’ll try and be better about writing now. I’ll work on it.

Things at home are good, but busy! Working a lot, growing a baby, taking care of home…etc. Matthew is doing great! He’s so excited about his little sibling – he often asks if the baby is awake or sleeping, and also asks all the time if we are ready to go to “the baby hospital” yet. He’s convinced it’s a boy – everyone else thinks girl. We’ll find out in 3 weeks!! Here’s my belly at 16 weeks:

And here’s Matthew, hugging my belly (Aww!)

In other news, Edison’s book will be released in less than a month!! I’m so excited!! If you live nearby, you are welcome to join our launch party at Top Cut Comics in Loves Park! Check out Edison’s YouTube channel for videos counting down the days until launch!!

Alright, I’m headed to bed. I’m completely exhausted! I swear I wasn’t this exhausted before I got pregnant… Night!

Happy 2 Years to my Wonderful Husband!

Today marks two whole years since Edison and I started dating! Two years ago, I spent an entire weekend thinking it over (he proposed the idea on a Friday night, and I made him wait until Monday for an answer…and I spent the whole weekend coming up with reasons it wouldn’t work out.) As you can probably guess, I quit worrying about the what-ifs and decided to give it a try. I had no idea that two years down the road, we would already be married for 6 months, and be almost 3 months pregnant! These past two years have been two of the best years of my life. How lucky am I, really, to be married to my best friend? It seems like we’ve been together much longer than two years (maybe because we were best friends before we even started dating…) but you know what? I’m not sick of him yet! I still enjoy his company just as much as I always have (he tells me he’s not sick of me either – but I bet he’d change his answer if you ask him today after my pregnancy hormone induced crying spell last night that he had to calm me down from, or this morning’s “morning” sickness puking in the toilet while he was in the shower…) But anyway…

Two wonderful years down, and many more amazing years to come. I’d say we are extremely lucky to have each other.

Edison and I on our wedding day! This was taken that morning, while we were setting up the wedding hall.

Just pronounced Husband and Wife (by my wonderful grandma, who performed the ceremony)

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband!

The Pumpkin Patch!

A couple weeks ago, we took a family trip to The Pumpkin Patch! I love fall, and I love visiting the Pumpkin Patch. It’s a lot of fun, and the donuts are awesome! We had a fun trip together and took tons of pictures. I’ll share some here:

Just as we walked into The Pumpkin Patch – here’s Matthew very excited waving us along

Matthew loved the piglet!

And Edison made friends with a Llama

So, it was a pretty fun Sunday afternoon for us. I’m hoping we’ll make it back out to the Pumpkin Patch at least one more time before Halloween!

In other news…the book is coming along great! Tale of the Wisconsin Werewolf is at the printer right now, and we should have the copies in a few short weeks! And we have another great surprise in store…just released tonight: If you pre-order Tale of the Wisconsin Werewolf, then you can read the entire first half of the book immediately – before it goes on sale December 15th! Reserve your copy now!

I have such a wonderful husband!

I’m 8 weeks pregnant now! Up until yesterday, I’ve been feeling really good. Occasional nausea, some gagging, but nothing too bad. But yesterday? Ugh. I felt awful! The morning sickness finally reared it’s ugly head, and I was down for the count. I was sent home from work early, and when I got home, Edison was still home (he didn’t work until later in the day). He was so sweet to me – he had me go change into comfy pajamas and lay on the couch, then tucked me in with 3 blankets (I like blankets…and making nests to snuggle in…). Then he brought me a big bucket, two different kinds of crackers, ice water in a pretty cup, a book and my Kindle, and he got a bunch of movies out and set up for me to watch during the day. Then he kept pestering me until I told him what sounded good from the store, and he ran out to get me orange juice, grape juice, and tomato soup. He then waited on me until he had to leave for work.

Morning sickness can be rough…today had bad spots, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as yesterday. I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful husband to support me through it. He’s so good to me :)

Our first look at Baby Crux

Tuesday we got our first glimpse of Baby Crux! It was so exciting! Since this is a high risk pregnancy, my doctor ordered a very early ultrasound. So, Edison and I headed in for the appointment. After peeing in a cup (seriously, can’t they think of a better option? Peeing in a cup is really hard!) and an exam, finally it was ultrasound time! Edison was convinced it was twins, but I was pretty confident there was only one baby. The ultrasound looked like this:

One little baby, measuring perfectly at 6 weeks 2 days! We even got to see it’s heartbeat :) It was wonderful.

Since it’s a high risk pregnancy, I’ll be monitored more closely by my doctor and will go in for more frequent visits. I go back in 3 weeks. The doctor gave us a huge packet, complete with magazines, a memory book, lots of information…very useful stuff. He also robbed me of about 4 tubes of blood, but these things happen. I did not faint before, during, or after the blood drawing process, however. (I’ve been known to do that in the past…) Just to be safe, though, Edison drove home. Overall, even though the exam was uncomfortable and I’d rather keep all my blood in my body, thank you very much, It was a great doctor visit because we were assured Baby looks great and everything is right on track. I’d gladly put up with as many uncomfortable visits as I need to in order to make sure I have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy, happy Baby Crux.

An exciting announcement…

In the past few weeks, there has been no shortage of fun and exciting things going on. You all read about everything we did to celebrate Matthew’s 6th birthday. Then, our own little Matthew started first grade! First grade, can you believe it?! So, we’ve been really busy with all that. And then, just yesterday, we got some REALLY exciting news…

I’m pregnant!!

Baby Crux is on the way!!!

Saturday morning I took a test, and there was a very faint positive line, so we weren’t sure what to make of it. We were both standing in the bathroom trying to decipher it – I declared it was a “try again soon” answer. Edison got a kick out of the magic 8 ball reference. So then, I took another test Sunday morning – another faint positive, so I decided I’d run to Walmart and buy a different brand of test right then and there – I didn’t want another day of wondering. So there I go, running like a crazy woman through Walmart at 6:30am on a Sunday morning with two boxes of pregnancy tests (just to be sure…) and two candy bars (celebratory candy, of course). I run back home, take the tests, and they were unmistakably positive!! There was lots of squealing, smiling, and hugging going on in the bathroom. It was a very exciting room (probably the most exciting time our bathroom has ever had).

So, that’s our news! I’ll be back with lots of family and pregnancy updates. Matthew is thrilled to be a big brother!!

Matthew’s 6th birthday party!

Our little boy turned six…SIX! I still can’t believe it. He’s growing up too fast. Yesterday we threw him a nice birthday party, and he had a blast! He really wanted a Blue’s Clues party…do you know how hard it is to find decorations for a Blue’s Clues party?! Nearly impossible. Local stores don’t carry anything Blue’s Clues related. So, we had to improvise. I think we did pretty good, overall. I’ll let you see for yourself:

Here’s the party table I decorated

My grandma decorated the garage door and drew Blue on a poster board. She did a great job with Blue! Matthew was so excited when we arrived and he saw the garage door. It was great.

Matthew decided he wanted cupcakes – so that’s what I made him. He sprinkled them himself.

Present time! Here he is, singing away in the microphone from Uncle Dev.

Happy birthday!

Blowing out the candles!

I *love* the expression on his face in this picture.

A very happy birthday to our little boy!!

Day out with Thomas

For Matthew’s birthday, we decided his big present from us would be an experience: he’s been a Thomas the Tank Engine fan for quite awhile now, and it just so happened that the Day Out with Thomas tour was taking place on his birthday weekend! So, without telling him where we were going (only that it was his birthday surprise) we packed him up in the car and drove an hour or so to Union, Illinois to the train museum where Thomas was visiting. Matthew was pretty thrilled when he discovered where we were and that we were actually going to ride on Thomas the Train.

Here’s our boy just after we boarded Thomas, waiting to go for our ride!

Here’s a side view of Thomas, with Edison and Matthew standing by the guard rail

There was a ton of stuff to do there: we had one 20 minute ride on Thomas, unlimited rides on other trains and shuttles, an imagination station, a storytelling area, clowns (*shudder*), a bounce house, a playground, tours of trains, gift shops, tons of food…and I think there was a magic show. Edison says it was Mr D’s magic show. Anyway, Matthew had a great time and he was definitely wiped out by the time we left. I think it was a great birthday present!

Edison and I were taking turns posing with Matthew when some really nice random guy asked if we would like him to take a picture of the three of us. So, really nice guy, if you ever stumble across my blog, thank you again! You took a great picture of us!

This picture was taken at the end of our day, and by then Matthew was pretty exhausted. He wouldn’t smile for us, but it’s a cute picture anyway!

All in all, it was a great birthday trip!
